Psoriasis treatment: Don't settle!

Psoriasis treatment: Don't settle!

It's a good thing you live in the 21st century, when psoriasis treatment options are plenty and effective. In the 19th century, psoriasis remedies included ingredients such as cat and dog feces, goose oil, onions with sea salt and urine, and toxic substances such as nitrate, sulphur, and mercury. These were not very effective solutions, and in fact, were harmful because of the toxic ingredients.

Today, there are many treatment options available for psoriasis. Topical medications, systemic treatment, and light therapy are all effective at improving psoriasis symptoms.

Science has come a long way since the old days of using toxins to treat psoriasis. Now there are many treatments that will not only help improve symptoms, but can clear psoriasis lesions. You don't have to settle for less than satisfactory results. If you feel you are not seeing the treatment results you want, use the treatment check-up tool to see if it's time to visit your doctor about your psoriasis treatment and treatment expectations.

Good communication with your doctor is key to managing your psoriasis. It's important to talk to your doctor about your psoriasis treatment if:

  • you are not satisfied with your treatment
  • your treatment does not seem to be working
  • you are not sure how to use your treatment
  • you want to learn more about your psoriasis treatment options
  • you think you have moderate or severe psoriasis (use the psoriasis severity calculator to figure out how severe your psoriasis may be)
  • your psoriasis seems to be affecting your quality of life
  • you want to be referred to a dermatologist who specializes in psoriasis

Get ready for your appointment to discuss treatment options by using the doctor discussion guide.
